Obituary for Mabel Irene King

Mabel Irene King, 94 passed away May 19, 2019 in Florida. She was born April 3, 1925 to the late Ed and Dolly (Owens) Payne. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Bailey Hansford King in 1957 and Her siblings Edward Payne, John William Payne, and Anna Lou Payne Boyd.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses Larry W. King (Jan) and Philip R. King (Nancy). Her grandchildren Christina K. Williamson, and Andrew G. King and great grandchildren, Megan O’Donnel, Morgan Williamson, Margaret Williamson and Chancellor Bailey King.

Mabel was a wonderful loving mother, and grandmother. She raised her two sons after her husband died and was very involved in helping raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mabel worked at Oakridge Tennessee as well as the Airborne Gliders in Louisville Ky during WWII. After the war she and Bailey owned a grocery store in Crab Orchard Ky. When they sold the store they moved to Florida where Bailey died a few years later at what is now known as Kennedy Space Center. Mabel went to work for the Brevard County clerk of courts and ultimately retired after 30 years. She was a Kentucky Colonel and an extreme Patriot. After retirement she began painting and helping with grandchildren, this kept her young and she became an accomplished artist. She was loved and will be missed by all.
